Damen Naval confirmed in an 8 October release it has signed a contract with Danish defence technology company Terma A/S for the supply of the C-Guard decoy launching system, which will be installed on the first of four frigates under the Colombian Navy's Strategic Surface Platform (PES) programme.

As noted previously, the vessel, designated PES 10714CO and based on Damen's Sigma 10514 design, will be the first of its kind to be built in Colombia. Construction will take place in close co-operation with the Science and Technology Corporation for the Development of the Naval, Maritime and River Industry (Cotecmar) in Cartagena de Indias, with delivery scheduled for 2030.

According to Terma the C-Guard is a naval self-protection system equipped with advanced anti-air warfare (AAW) and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) modules, Damen Naval said in its release. C-Guard is designed to counter co-ordinated and multiple missile and torpedo attacks by deploying decoys to divert threats, providing precise and effective protection.

“We are pleased to integrate Terma's advanced C-Guard system into the PES frigate,” Jasper Oreel, project director at Damen Naval, said in the release. “Its proven performance and modular configuration perfectly complement the mission versatility of the Sigma 10514 platform. We look forward to the successful execution of the project and continued collaboration with Terma.”
