Canadian remotely operated vehicle (ROV) company Deep Trekker unveiled its new Spectra ROV at the Oceanology International 2026 exhibition, held in London, United Kingdom from 10 to 12 March.

Speaking to Janes at Oceanology International, Colin Woodworth, Chief Financial Officer at Deep Trekker said that Spectra is designed to operate in harsh conditions at depths of up to 1,000 m. The use of more powerful thrusters compared to other Deep Trekker ROVs also allows Spectra to operate in stronger currents. The ROV has seven thrusters (four vectored and three vertical) allowing for a 4 kt forward speed and 3 kt lateral speed. A 4K stereo camera, sonar, and 300,000 lm light array are also equipped.

Spectra weighs 38 kg and has a length of 790 mm, a width of 586 mm and a height of 296 mm. Defence roles can include mine countermeasures (MCM), explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), port and harbour security inspections, ship hull surveys, and pre-dive reconnaissance. In the MCM/EOD role, a disruptor system can be equipped. Woodworth said that one potential use case could be using the ROV to verify the presence of mines following detection of a metal signature using a magnetometer.

During NATO's Exercise ‘Dynamic Messenger/REPMUS 25' (Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping with Maritime Unmanned Systems) in September 2025, the company integrated an ECS Special Projects Viper MDS (mine disruption system) and Elwave Tetrapulse sensor for mine detection onto its Revolution ROV.
