Euronaval 2024: Mini Shaldag makes its debut

Israel Shipyards has unveiled its latest version of the Shaldag series of fast patrol craft at the Euronaval 2024 exhibition, held in Paris from 4 to 7 November.

The company told Janes it has noted demand for smaller vessels suitable for operations in lakes and waterways with shallow waters. These craft could be operated not only by naval forces but also by the army or law enforcement agencies, with missions envisaged to include interdiction of smuggling and illegal immigration, and search and rescue (SAR).

The new Mini Shaldag is an all-aluminium construction craft with a length of 19.85 m, a beam of 4.94 m, and a draught of 1.05 m. The 37.5 tonne craft can be powered by twin 1,650 hp(m) MAN 12-cylinder diesels and Hamilton water-jets to a speed in excess of 45 kt.

The Mini Shaldag is designed to be cost effective to acquire, and further engine choices are available where high top speed is not a priority and cost is a key driver.

The new patrol boats are designed to be simple to operate with a crew of four. Up to 20 personnel or rescuees can be taken onboard. The aft deck can be specified with a ramp for a rigid-hull inflatable boat, or can be equipped with a short-range missile system where required. Two rescue zones with easy access to the waterline facilitate SAR operations.
