Goa Shipyard launches two more Adamya-class vessels

Goa Shipyard has launched two more Adamya-class patrol vessels for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).

Named Amulya and Akshay with pennant numbers 258 and 259 respectively, the vessels were launched on 5 January, the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced in a statement on the day after.

Overall, Amulya and Akshay are the third and fourth vessels in the Adamya-class programme, which seeks to equip the ICG with a fleet of eight high-speed 320-tonne patrol vessels.

Contract for the programme was inked between the MoD and Goa Shipyard in March 2022 and the first- and second-of-class vessels were launched in October 2024.

The Adamya class has an overall length of about 51 m, an overall beam of 8 m, and a hull draught of 2.15 m.

Powered by two diesel engines driving two controllable pitch propellers, the class has a top speed of 27 kt and a standard range of 1,500 n miles at 13 kt.

It can accommodate a crew of 35 including seven officers.

Thus far, no information has been released with regards to the vessel's suite of weapons and sensors. However, visuals of Amulya and Akshay carried by local media indicate the presence of bridge wings on the main superstructure.

This feature helps to accommodate point defence weapons such as 12.7 mm machine guns or non-lethal effectors including acoustic hailers, which are increasingly found on similar coastguard vessels.

Once in service, the Adamya-class patrol vessels will take on maritime patrol operations within India's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and the protection of fishery resources, read the statement from the MoD.
