Hanwha Systems has secured a contract worth KRW40 billion (USD27.6 million) from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) to supply combat management systems (CMSs) and tactical datalinks (TDLs) for two new Philippine Navy frigates.
Hanwha Systems announced on 31 December 2025 that it will supply its Naval Shield CMS for two 3,200 tonne frigates to be built by HD HHI for the Philippine Navy. HD HHI will build and supply the two frigates under a contract worth USD578 million signed between South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) and the Philippine Department of National Defense (DND) on 26 December.
DAPA said the two frigates will be delivered to the Philippine Navy by 2029. It is therefore very likely that Hanwha Systems will supply the CMSs and TDLs to HD HHI by 2028.
A Hanwha Systems spokesperson told Janes on 2 January that the CMSs to be delivered for the frigates will be based on Baseline 2.4 version of the Naval Shield. The company has previously supplied the Baseline 2.4 version of the Naval Shield CMS for the Philippine Navy's two 3,200 tonne Miguel Malvar-class frigates, which were also built by HD HHI. According to Janes Fighting Ships, the first vessel of this class, BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG 06), was commissioned in May 2025, while the second frigate, BRP Diego Silang, was commissioned in December.
Hanwha Systems has previously told Janes that Baseline 2.4's main processing unit is based on a server-based high-performance computer (HPC). Baseline 2.4 also features digital-based video signal distribution and a Windows 10-/Linux-based main operating system (OS).
