Turkish engineering company STM displayed a scale model of Türkiye's first indigenously designed fast attack craft (FAC) at the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 held in Istanbul from 22 to 27 July.
The National FAC project is intended to replace the older Doğan-class FACs that entered service between 1977 and 1988.
Development of an FAC based on a national design was initiated with the Turkish Type Fast Attack Craft Project – Phase 1 Contract Design Agreement signed by the Defence Industry Agency (SSB) and STM in August 2020.
Following the completion of the design phase, a contract for the procurement of one prototype FAC was signed by the SSB and STM in September 2024. The first steel-cutting ceremony of the FAC was held on 8 July 2025.
The platform is currently under construction at İstanbul Denizcilik Shipyard, with STM serving as the main contractor.
Designed to operate in littoral waters and conduct high-speed strike operations, the FAC will have a length of 68 m, a beam of 9.34 m, and a draught of 2.5 m, with a displacement of 700 tonnes.
Propulsion is provided by four diesel engines driving steerable waterjets, supported by three diesel generators propelling the vessel to speeds exceeding 39 kt, with a cruising speed of 20 kt and a minimum operational range of 800 n miles. The ship will have a crew complement of 36 and an endurance of seven days.
