Singapore's ST Engineering has unveiled a new fast interception craft (FIC) aimed at addressing the market for platforms that can carry out high-speed interdiction operations.

A model of the product was unveiled at the IMDEX 2025 naval and defence exhibition, which is taking place at the Changi Exhibition Centre in Singapore from 6 to 8 May.

Known as the fast interception vessel (FIV), the craft has an overall length of about 32 m, an approximate breadth of 7.25 m, and a full-load displacement of about 100 tonnes.

Powered by waterjets, the vessel can attain a top speed of 50 kt when its engines are employed at 100% maximum continuous rating (MCR) in calm waters. When cruising at its economical speed of 30 kt, the FIV can attain a maximum range of about 1,000 n miles. With a crew complement of 12, the FIC will have a maximum mission endurance of about four days.

A model of the FIC on display at IMDEX 2025 indicates that the vessel will be able to embark one crane-deployed rigid-hull inflatable boat (RHIB) for visit, board, search, and seizure (VBSS) operations.

In terms of weapons, the FIC can be armed with a 20 mm gun mounted on a remote-controlled weapon station (RCWS) in the primary position and two 12.7 mm machine guns on a deck aft of the wheelhouse.

At present, Janes understands that ST Engineering has yet to receive indications of interest given that the FIC is newly unveiled. However, the company has plans to market the product across the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions, according to a representative from the company that spoke to Janes
