The Kuwait Armed Forces announced a major naval procurement programme on 3 June, when it said the Emirati company Edge will manage the delivery of eight Falaj 3 missile patrol vessels and provide logistical and in-service support.
The Kuwait Armed Forces released photographs of the project inauguration ceremony, which was attended by Kuwaiti Defence Undersecretary Sheikh Abdullah Mishal al-Sabah, Edge CEO Hamad al-Marar, and the United Arab Emirates' (UAE's) ambassador to Kuwait.
Edge released a statement saying a contract worth USD2.45 billion had been signed with the Kuwait Ministry of Defense to supply an unspecified number of 62 m Falaj 3 missile vessels, describing it as the largest naval export programme in the region.
The statement added that Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), one of its subsidiaries, has been selected as the build subcontractor and that Edge will provide the ammunition for the vessels, as well as integrated logistics and in-service support. No timeline was given for the delivery of the vessels.
ADSB was awarded a contract to build four Falaj 3s for the UAE Navy in 2021. The first, Altaf, was launched in January and officially commissioned into service during the NAVDEX 2025 show held in Abu Dhabi in February, although satellite imagery shows that it subsequently returned to the ADSB yard.
