Peru's state-run shipyard is looking to start the construction of a frigate for the Peruvian Navy by the end of 2025, SIMA told Janes on 23 September.
A technical study is under way for the frigate, and “construction is expected to begin by December, pending the approval of the study”, a shipyard spokesperson told Janes .
The beginning of the construction would entail the first steel-cutting and assembly of the ship's modules, the Peruvian shipyard said.
Also, “in mid-2025 construction commenced of [the offshore patrol vessel's] six modules”, which are now being assembled, the spokesperson added.
The modules for an additional two support vessels are also being assembled, SIMA's spokesperson told Janes .
Each support ship will have 32 modules, the company said in a release on 4 August. The company added that the two boats are expected to be delivered by early 2027.
SIMA and South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) signed an agreement in April 2024 for the construction of one frigate, which SIMA called a multirole vessel; one offshore patrol vessel; and two logistical support vessels, locally called Buques de Apoyo Logísticos (BALOG) for the Peruvian Navy. All four platforms are expected to be operational by 2029.
