Türkiye is donating the Doğan-class fast attack craft TCG Volkan to the Maldives, the Turkish Ministry of National Defence (MSB) revealed on 12 April.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), it said 19 Maldives personnel are being trained in Türkiye from 7 April to 9 May as part of the donation of Volkan.
It provided more details in a statement sent to journalists on the same day, saying maintenance and repair work on Volkan is being carried out at Istanbul Naval Shipyard Command, after which it will be transferred to the Maldives using a transport ship, with the handover planned for June.
Turkish naval teams will make the vessel operational after its arrival and provide onboard training to its crew over a two-week period, with the transfer process expected to be completed in July.
The MSB told Janes that Volkan remains in active service during the preparations. It did not disclose details regarding its armament upon handover.
