Auterion and Ukrainian defence technology company Airlogix plan to produce more than 5,000 units of medium-range X- and delta-wing unmanned aircraft systems (UASs) in total per year as part of their joint venture (JV), an Auterion representative confirmed to Janes on 16 February.
The Ukrainian government has already requested thousands of the artificial intelligence (AI)-guided UASs that will be manufactured in Germany as part of the JV, according to a 13 February press release from Auterion. The delivery of the UASs for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) will be co-ordinated through the German Federal Ministry of Defence. Initial deliveries are expected to take place in 2026, according to the release. The Ukrainian government granted the necessary permissions for the Ukrainian technology to be exported and produced in Germany, the Auterion representative confirmed.
The Auterion-Airlogix JV will combine Ukraine's “battle-tested [unmanned aerial vehicle] UAV platforms” and Auterion's AI guidance and autonomous navigation software, according to Auterion. The company representative also said they will develop navigation that can work in global navigation satellite services (GNSS)-denied environment as part of the JV.
“The waveform of command-and-control [C2] choice is OPSEC [operational security] related and cannot be shared,” the representative said. They went on to confirm that the C2 software is Auterion's without going into any more detail.
The systems that will be produced as part of the JV also fulfil the requirements for the procurement of munitions by the German armed forces as per Auterion's release.
