The German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) started its planning for Systematic's command-and-control (C2) software SitaWare Edge within its Mission Enabling Service Bundeswehr (MESBw) in 2025, a spokesperson of the German Ministry of Defence (MoD) told Janes in a statement on 26 September.

The Bundeswehr acquired an enterprise licence for SitaWare Edge (mobile), extending the existing use of SitaWare Frontline (mountable) and SitaWare Headquarters (command post) within MESBw, a Systematic communications manager confirmed to Janes on 22 September. The MESBw is a unified software system designed to support command at all levels.

“For the level of command post, the MESBw Command Post (CP) is in place with an increasing usage,” the MoD spokesperson told Janes about the timeline of the MESBw software network becoming operational. The main intention in integrating SitaWare Edge is to “equip each dismounted soldier with MESBw portable in order to have them connected to a tactical information network as part of the Digitalisation of Land Forces,” according to the German MoD.

The MESBw will continue to be the main C2 system within the German Armed Forces, the MoD spokesperson confirmed in the statement. As the core of the MESBw, it is hosted on the Harmonisation of command-and-control information systems (Harmonisierung der Führungsinformationssysteme: HaFIS) IT platform.
