India's Nibe Limited has signed an agreement with Elbit Systems to build the Israeli company's Precise and Universal Launching System (PULS) multiple rocket launcher (MRL) in India.
In a filing to the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on 28 July, Nibe said its accord with Elbit could enable both the production and supply of PULS to the Indian military, should the MRL be selected for procurement. The new agreement also includes transfer of PULS technology to Nibe. If procured, Nibe said PULS would the first universal rocket launcher to be operated by the Indian military.
According to Janes Land Warfare Platforms: Artillery & Air Defence, PULS can be mounted on a 6×6 or an 8×8 vehicle chassis and is capable of firing guided and unguided rockets of different calibres, with an effective range between 40 and 300 km.
PULS is an all-weather, multicalibre system for shoot-and-scoot operations. It features a remote-controlled powered launcher mounted at the rear. When deployed in the firing position, hydraulically operated stabilisers are lowered to the ground on either side and at the rear to provide a more stable firing platform. It is a modular system, which can accommodate pods of 122 mm, 160 mm, or 306 mm rockets, with the number of launchers in each pod dependent on the type of rocket.
Nibe had not responded to Janes queries at the time of publication.
