Amid concerns about the ability of the United States to restock its depleted munitions stock due to recent and continuing combat, Raytheon confirmed on 13 March it has completed a 26,000 sq ft (2,415.5 m 2 ) expansion of its Redstone Raytheon Missile Integration Facility slated to increase the facility's integration and delivery capacity by over 50% and grow the company's footprint at the site in Alabama.

“This expansion marks an important step in our ability to deliver more missiles to our customers faster,” Barbara Borgonovi, Raytheon's president of Naval Power, said in a statement acknowledging the USD115 million capital investment.

The company said the plant is the “cornerstone” of the company's missile production and integration capabilities, with production of nine variants of the Standard Missile (SM) family and other weapon systems.

The US was facing a missile crunch before the recent attack on Iran, according to US Navy (USN) officials.

From the end of 2023 through the first quarter and part of the second quarter of 2024, the USN had spent about USD1 billion on missiles used in Red Sea regional operations, navy officials confirmed at the time. Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) defence analysts and US lawmakers publicly estimated that the US was spending a similar amount per day for munitions and other combat operations in the first four days of Operation ‘Epic Fury'.
