US SOUTHCOM to deliver more logistics vehicles to Haiti

US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) has completed the delivery of 34 M1224 MaxxPro mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles to Haiti with more vehicles to follow, a SOUTHCOM spokesperson told Janes on 19 September.
The MRAPs were “delivered and transferred to Kenyan personnel deployed to Haiti” as part of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti, according to the command. Ten MRAPs arrived in July and the other 24 in late August. The US Department of Defense “intends to provide HMMWVs [High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles] and cargo trucks in the coming months” as part of the ongoing Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA), a SOUTHCOM spokesperson told Janes .
According to the spokesperson, the platforms will be utilised by Kenyan forces, alongside the Haitian National Police, “to restore security in regions impacted by widespread gang violence”.
The United States has co-ordinated about USD300 million in funding, and around 147 sorties transporting civilian contracted personnel, equipment, and supplies have taken place since April 2024.
