The US Department of State approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of as many as 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM) missiles to Ukraine on 28 August.

In addition to the missiles, the USD825 million FMS includes up to 3,350 embedded GPS/inertial navigation system (INS) modules. It may also include Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Modules (SAASMs) that are able to access more precise and encrypted Y-Code or M-Code GPS signals.

Ancillary items such as missile containers, launch pylons, spares, support, software, and training will also be included.

Funding for the purchase is being provided by Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway, as well as Foreign Military Financing from the United States. The US Department of Defense's (DoD's) Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in the notice announcing the FMS, “The ERAM is an example of working together with our NATO allies to develop a capable and scalable system capable of being delivered on a fast timeline.”

A spokesperson for the Armament Directorate at the US Air Force's (USAF's) Air Force Materiel Command at Eglin Air Force Base (AFB) in Florida, which has been managing the ERAM programme, told Janes on 5 September that two US companies, Zone 5 Technologies and CoAspire, are the only vendors for ERAM, and each has its own variant.

These two variants would make up the possible total of 3,350 ERAMs, although the spokesperson did not give a further breakdown of how many each company would produce.
