In the second part of this podcast Harry Kemsley and Sean Corbett are again joined by Janes analysts Dylan Lee Lehrke and James Rands to discuss the lessons learned from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The panel continue their exploration of the changing tactics being deployed by Russia and Ukraine including the increasing use of unmanned warfare. They explore if their use is an indicator of a change in modern warfare and how the conflict may evolve over time.
James Rands
James Rands joined Janes in 2018 after a career as an infantry officer in the British Army. He served in Kosovo, Macedonia, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. He has served on attachment with the USMC and the Netherlands Airborne Brigade. For much of his career he worked in intelligence. James joined Janes as the C4ISR manager but recently moved to country intelligence where he is the senior military capabilities analyst. James holds a bachelor degree in War Studies from King’s College London and masters in Philosophy from the Open University. He continues to serve as a reservist.
Dylan Lee Lehrke
Dylan Lee Lehrke is the Head of OrBats, Inventories, Installations, and Imagery at Janes. Prior to taking his current position he was Janes’ Senior NATO Analyst. Dylan served in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1996 to 1999, deploying to Kuwait and Bosnia. He holds a PhD in peace studies from the Irish School of Ecumenics at Trinity College in Dublin, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington’s Jackson School of International Studies. He previously worked as a fellow with the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration and as the Chief of Staff for the Project on National Security Reform’s Case Studies Working Group.
