Unpacking the Myanmar crisis

Born and educated in the UK, Tony graduated from the Australian National University, Canberra, in Asian studies and Chinese language and completed post-graduate studies in modern Chinese history and revolutionary warfare at the University of Nanjing, PRC. Based in Bangkok since 1979, he has conducted field research on insurgencies in various countries across the Asian region including in Myanmar where he has spent time with various ethnic insurgent groups while visiting Yangon regularly. He has been writing for a range of Janes’ publications since 1991 focusing on issues of insurgency and terrorism in Afghanistan, the Indian Sub-continent, southern Thailand and the southern Philippines. He also undertakes consultancy work for corporate, governmental and international non-governmental clients.
